The nursing shortage was a huge topic of conversation back when I started nursing school and the problem is ongoing. With Baby Boomers aging and the need for healthcare growing, the nursing shortage is expected to intensify.
Registered nurses are one of the most in-demand occupations. Many jobs are going away or have been replaced due to technology. As for nursing, there is job stability. If you were to do a look up on any search engine, you will find countless nursing job opportunities; emergency department nurses, pediatric nurses, school nurses, forensic nurses, flight nurses, travel nurses, etc.

There are many opportunities when it comes to work schedules and shift availability. At my facility alone, there are OR nurses with one of the following; 5 days/8 hours shifts, 4 days/10 hour shifts, and 3 days/12 hour shifts. In addition, there are OR nurses that work part-time and per deim (PRN). If you want the weekends off, there are facilities that offer that. If you want to work days only, nights only, even weekends only, the opportunity is there.
